Chicks for Free

Well, they may not have been free, but I couldn't resist showing my age with a line out of an 80's song.

Onward!

That's right, dear readers, Mandyland has increased it's population by eight.

On Wednesday, Joseph, Elizabeth and I joined Chris at Farm Supply to buy chicks.

A bit of back story...

For two years, I've wanted chickens. I've dreamed. I've read books. I've researched urban chickens. I've tried to talk every person I knew with some sort of yard into fostering chickens for me. It's finally paid off.

My aunt, who herself had a flock for years, decided to repopulate her coop. I jumped on board immediately. Now, we're the proud co-owners of eight little chicks. There were nine, but one did not make it through the first night.

A moment of silence, please.

I wanted to wait to write this post until I had pictures of the little fluff balls, but considering they're currently residing in a warming crate, that may take a while. In the meantime, we're planning on visiting at least once a week so we can better know Pippy, Alice, Blondie, CiCi, Georgie, Izzy, Chickie and...oh shoot. I'm forgetting a name. It'll come to me...

Joseph adores them. Every morning, he wakes up and asks to see the chickens.

Elizabeth is apathetic.

I'm so happy, I could do the...wait for it...the chicken dance!
