Oh dear. It's been almost a week since I've updated Mandyland. How have you all been faring? I realize you're probably gnashing your teeth in frustration as you repeatedly hit "refresh" hoping against all odds that an updated blog will appear. Never fear, dear readers, I'm updating now.
Let's see...I think my last post was on Wednesday which leads to Thursday, naturally.
Thursday was pretty awesome. I was asked to judge the Individual Exhibit category for the county-wide History Day competition. Seriously. Could there be anything more fun for an amateur history buff?
These middle school kids really knew their topics. The theme was the individual in history. There were, of course, the people you'd expect - Anne Frank, Lincoln, Jackie Robinson, Elvis - but there were a couple who I'm ashamed to admit, I didn't know a thing about. Two such individuals were George Freeth and Garrett Morgan. Check 'em out. Pretty cool guys who were way ahead of their times and truly impacted modern society.
It was great fun to listen to the passionate presentations by these little guys and girls. I can't wait until Joseph's old enough to participate. Wait! It goes too fast as it is. Let's just say that it's fun knowing some of what's in store for him.
