Second First Day of School

I'm still sans internet. Which means I'm typing this post on my iPad. Which means whatever I type is permanent after it disappears into the box.

So forgive typos and rambling.

As if that's not my normal modus operandi.

(When one types on an iPad, one must use Latin phrases.)

Yesterday was Joseph's second first day of school.

We woke up after a night of "twick or tweet" and tummy aches to eat breakfast. Joseph, remembering his other first day, asked for donuts.

I declined considering the sheer amount of chocolate consumed the night before.

But I did make waffles.

I ironed his shirt, found a pair of shorts, packed his lunch, and then, with my stomach in knots, a smile pasted on my face, drove him to school.

He clung to my hand as we walked to the bench outside the door.

I whispered, "You are going to have an amazing day."

He whispered back, "What if I don't."

"Not possible."

He smiled a little.

The door opened. Chad and I flanked him while Elizabeth yelled, "I go school too!" I gave him a hug, a kiss, another squeeze, and then...

I left.

When I picked him up, I asked how it went.

"The teacher had me sit down. All the kids were looking at me."

"Were you nervous."

"No. I didn't care. She said, 'Class, this is Joseph' and then we did our 'H's' and '8's."

"Do you think you're going to like it?"

"Yeah. I have friends already."

I smiled and breathed a sigh of relief.
