She's Running

I've been experiencing a little excess energy.

Just a tiny bit.

At the same time, I've been experiencing a little writer's block.

Just a tiny bit.

Add those two things together and you have me pacing the hallway, painting my baseboards, scrubbing my tile, hoping for a little crack in the block.

Just a tiny bit.

So I decided to run.

Which is somewhat disastrous.

You may not know this, but at one time I wanted to run a marathon.

I was obviously delusional.

After giving myself two black eyes from excess bouncing, I decided the only marathon I'm interested in is a X-Files marathon.

Or maybe a Harry Potter marathon. Hmmm...

Anyway, I decided to run. I pulled out my sneakers, blew the dust off my sports bra, pulled on a pair of sweats and started a slow jog.

On the first day, I made it a half mile before nearly collapsing against the side of the bridge I was crossing.

(My lungs were burning so much, I thought about jumping, but then realized the bridge was only two feet from the dry creek bed.)

On the second day, I made it twenty more feet.

On the third day, Sarah joined me. Sarah who runs for miles. She pushed me a little further.

It's been almost two weeks and I just ran the complete 1.5 mile route. Tomorrow, I'm going to start lap two and see what happens.

Has it cleared my head?

Not really.

Has it ridden me of that dang excess energy?

Just a tiny bit.

Have I lost any weight?

Are you kidding? Puh-lease. We're talking my body. Of course I haven't lost weight.

But that could be due to the homemade ice cream.

I need to be doing something. Can I come with you? Running from me to you will either cure me or kill me!

I'm jealous! I'm still trying to get my balance back + movement in my toes... being in "da boot" for so long has been disastrous to my body (in many ways)... congrats on dusting off the shoes.

I've been following, and loving, the Couch to 5K program ... Maybe you want to take a look at it?

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml ... I have a handy app for my iPod that walks me through it as I'm doing it.

Good for you! I am always in awe of runners - mainly because I can't imagine myself doing it.  The only time I run is to avoid rain or...well, that's about it.  So I hold you in high, high esteem.

I was planning to start the C25K today - but I couldn't find my sneakers.  Tomorrow...?

That's awesome! Running for more than 3 minutes means you've beat me by a long shot, so good for you! You're a runner!

LOVE that you're running! I'm not running more than 3/4 of a mile at any one shot so I'm so proud of you for your distance so quickly.
Rock on, my friend, rock on.

I am in the same group as you with the excessive bouncing and experience level.  Perhaps we should run together soon?
