Farm City

A couple months ago, I had the pleasure of listening to and "meeting" Farm City author Novella Carpenter.

First off...Farm City.

About two years ago, my parents bought me this book. I was just starting my ever spiraling journey into gardening and urban farming exploration.

Side note: I am, by no means, an urban farmer. I do, however, stalk urban farmers.

I was in turns facinated and completely grossed out. Facinated because, seriously...a farm, on a vacant lot, in Oakland? And grossed out because I can't even touch a raw chicken let alone read about butchering a rabbit.

Hold on...

Feeling faint...

Where are my smelling salts?

Okay. Better now.

When I found out that Novella was going to be speaking at a local college, I jumped at the chance to go and listen. She didn't disappoint. I laughed, I cringed (pig heads in buckets...wait...feeling a little woozy again...), and I applauded.

I was also inspired to maybe expand my garden next year.

Come on! Do you really think it would take much?

This was one of those posts that I forgot to umm...post. I know. How embarassing.

Someday I will have a house.  With a patch of grass.  And I will plant, I WILL PLANT.
