The Girls

Let's talk chickens.

Last time you saw Henrietta, Miss Clucks and Cutie, they looked like this.

How fast they grow! The Clucking Trio look more and more like egg-laying hens every day.

They've been in their coop day and night for the past four weeks. Which means that they've become ridiculous.

Every day, I go out and check their water and food. Every day, I give them a little treat - apple peel, spinach leaves, radish greens. As soon as I open the door, they come running.

And then, the second I move, they act like I have an ax and am about ready to make dumplings.

Into their coop they scurry, clucking and squawking up a storm.

They are allowed outside the coop. But only with intense supervision. Otherwise things like this happen.

Am I still enjoying having chickens? Absolutely. I love sitting in my garden and lining up rocks while they cluck and talk and flap their wings.

Now...if only they'd start giving me eggs...

Fresh eggs must be just about the best thing ever. My parents both grew up on farms, and when we'd visit "the elders" on their farms them when I was a kid - all that fresh food and the eggs. Yum!

Awww! I have a HORROR story about what happened to my little boys' class chicks last week. It was horrible. :(

Sounds like you're enjoying them, that's the important part. What breeds have you got there, I think I see at least one Buff Orp?

<3 the awkward teenage chicken phase

They are amazing. I'm so excited to be able to walk outside and get ALL my fixings for an omelet.

They are looking good, but you know they can fly over your fence, did you clip their wings...ours fly up in the trees...;O) Yes the fresh eggs are great...now I am selling them at school for $2 a dozen, the girls aren't laying fast enough. LOL Can't wait to meet them..

OMG. I LOVE your chickens. I'm gonna need to make a trip to Cali just to meet them. Oh, and you too, of course! xoxoxo

I have a friend down the street from me who has chickens. She didn't realize they could fly over the fence. Now we have a couple of free-range chickens roaming our neighborhood. They're really quite cute. Hopefully no one gets hungry.

Nice! I love my buff orps! I thought that was a black sex-link, but I wasn't sure. The red on her chest is pretty. Your buff chant had me stumped!

Yep. We clipped their wings last weekend. It was the only way I could let them out of their coop without worrying that they'd end up in the street.

I'm telling you! They're adorable.

mandyland said...

Nah...the chickens are so much more interesting!

If you'd seen her legs, you would have gotten it. Fully feathered "slippers" and "pantaloons".

Gotta love the feathery pantaloons, I've never seen one in buff! My chicken book just lists white and partridge. She's beautiful. :)
