"Elizabeth, baby, do you want some milk?"
"Ah doooo," she drawls with the sweet thickness of molasses. To a stranger, she'd seem the perfect southern girl with her slow speech. But a stranger has never seen her shoot us The Look and say, in the voice of the Dimpled Dictator, "Mama sit here!"
Our darling angel is nineteen months. How has so much time passed since her first birthday? When did my pink and white chubby baby become this sturdy, independent toddler?
"Mama?"
"Yes, Joseph?"
"I think that when Elizabeth grows up, she'll be my boss."
She rules the house with a pouty lip, a stern look and a dimpled smile that melts the hardest of hearts. One gentle "no" and she crumbles into my arms, giant crocodile tears coursing down her cheeks, her round little arms around my back, patting me in comfort.
"Babies! Babies moo-ie."
"Hold on a sec."
"BABIES MOO-IE!! Awwwww...babies."
She's obsessed by babies. Baby dolls, baby books, baby pictures, babies in the stores and Babies. She's a sweet little mama. She pats her babies' cheeks, she carries them in her sling, she nurses them, she pushes them in her stroller. She lines them up and puts blankets over them. She puts them next to her in her high chair, in her car seat and in her bed.
"Elizabeth, honey. You can't wear that. It's cold outside. Cold. Brrr." I put my arms around my body while Elizabeth stands, shoulders back, sandals in hand.
Her brows furrow as she pushes the sundress towards me, "I whan 'is."
"Honey, it's cold outside."
"I whan 'IS."
She's as particular about her clothes as her aunt. She picks out outfits, strutting around with her darling head held high. She walks up to her Daddy and taps his arm. He looks down and ooh's and ahh's while she points her sparkly shoe clad foot towards him. She taps Joseph's arm and he smiles down at her, telling her he likes her outfit.
"Come on, baby! Time to go to the store!"
Elizabeth runs towards me, play-do bag over one arm, baby tucked under another, stopping just long enough to put on her sunglasses.
She operates my iPhone better than I do. She calls her grandparents for long chats. She helps me cook in the kitchen. She watches basketball with Chad. She holds Joseph's Star Wars figurines as gently as her babies, asking for the Jawa. She lays her head on Maggie Dog, patting her hello. She insists on hearing If You Give a Cat a Cupcake before bed.
She's sweet and kind. She's stubborn and independent. She's playful and bossy. She giggles at my silly faces and tries to tickle me. She puts both of her hands on my cheeks and holds me still to look in my eyes before giving me hugs and kisses. She brushes my hair and helps me get dressed in the morning, pushing my shoes on my feet with a grunt.
Our little Leo is content as the sun warming the earth.
And she fills my heart with joy.

She sounds adorable. But yes, she's gonna be the boss of that house one day!
It's so funny that you mentioned in the end that she's a Leo - because she SO is!
Signed, Another Leo
I love her tiny baby doll sling! And she seem to be quite the fashionista! Happy 19 months.
Joseph is the best. "Elizabeth will be my boss."
I still feel that way about my sister.
Awww, she's adorable momma!
Sweetness - i can hear every word! And the three-year old is the boss of our house. Sigh...
What a doll. I love the comment from Joseph that when he grows up sister will be boss.
Oh sweet girl. I've got one of those little dictators in my house, but she does it more with an iron fist than anything else. Eizabeth is absolutely as sweet as sugar.
So precious.
I don't think my womb can stand it.
It's enough to make you want another baby, isn't it.
*sigh*
I think the same thing on a daily basis.
So sweet she gives us cavities! lol
I'm sure your little dictators are just as adorably sweet. :)
He is wise, my little man.
Oh dear. lol
Thank you! We think so too, but we're slightly partial.
I can only hope that my sisters feel that way about me.
She loves that sling! It's actually a scarf from way back when I used to accessorize. You can tell how long ago that is by the pattern on the fabric. lol
She is a Leo through and through! The rest of the family are earth signs. She's either going to scorch us or fire us up.
Jury is out on that.
So precious! I love how much she cares about her clothes and she's just like my 15 month old - GREAT with the iPhone! ;)
What a sweet post! My lil' bit is almost 16 months. So much to look forward to!
So, so, so darling. Takes after her mother. :)
PS Are those Uggs?!?! Annie needs some ASAP.
After watching these adorable redheads for 4 days, I have to say...it was an easy job. I loaded up the kids for a day of shopping and it was great...no melt downs. We played and had a great time...but the way she says ah doo is too funny...Scarlett O'Hara couldn't do it better. We only had one NO incident, but Nana prevailed...hmm must be the red hair. She looked at me with those eyes and I looked back with the same....we understood each other..nana ruled. The last night she insisted on sleeping with JoeJoe...he just looked at me with his sweet eyes and said, "It's alright Nana, she can." We won't talk about peanut butter cookies for breakfast. LOL
What is it with babies being obsessed with babies?? Your cutie sure is talkative for 19 months. You're in trouble!
Thanks for stopping by my space yesterday. I apologize for taking so long to return the favor. The undiagnosed ADD was raging today.
she is just gorgeous, I love her sense of style, her opinions and her refusal to be anything but fabulous, what a gift she is . :)
