It's a Trap!

On Tuesday, Joseph brought this home from school:

Why yes! This is the same preschool of corn fritter fame.

After about 30 min - I mean seconds of freaking out, I went to Twitter to tweet about the injustice of it all.

Who gives preschool kids (parents) a task like build a leprechaun trap on Tuesday making it due Thursday morning?

And then the responses...

That's crazy pants

Phone it in, girl

And then, a few hours later, inspiration. Cheryl from Mommy Pants blogged that her son had created his leprechaun trap all by himself.

That's right, boys and girls. He did it all alone, which made me think, what the heck is up with all these leprechaun traps?

Also, I'll just have Joseph make his own.

Today, after I got home from work, Joseph and I made his trap. He cut the grass, glued the cinnamon and cornmeal dirt on top the oatmeal container, painted the rock gold, found all the sticks for the ladder and told me what to write on the signs. I helped him with gluing the ladder and cutting the trap door.

I suggested a rainbow and he said, "Maaa-ma." And rolled his eyes.

I suggest clouds and he said, "No. This is good."

He's obviously of the minimalist school of thought.

As we worked I asked him what he'd do if he caught a leprechaun.

"Give him to Miss J."

"What will she do?"

"Make him give us his money."

"Uh. Well, okay, then."

So, let me see if I have this right. They're learning to trap wee little men and hold them for ransom.

And the Army man is apparently in on it.

The post's punchline is the army man. I nearly snorted water out my nose when I saw the army man lying in wait to catch the leprechaun. Classic! Now if only you had some corn fritters as bait...

I love the army man accomplice! Making a trap for school was optional, but my son insisted on making one. We used gold and chocolate to ambush the little guy.

LOL!! He did a great job!

I think that I'm missing the point on why you would want to trap a person though....

It was crazypants, but the end result was good.

I have an interesting issue with this, though. Why are we focusing on trapping magical creatures for profit?

Sometimes, I'm glad he's still too young for preschool.

And if they're truly magical...wouldn't they just escape an oatmeal box.

Truly.

That was the bit that worried me...

Seriously. I had to talk him out of his first rock which was bigger than the top of the canister.

Isn't it ridiculous?!

That point flew past me too. I was a bit concerned when I heard him describe what could only be ransom...

mandyland said...

Ooo...chocolate. That would trap me!

I know, right? SO funny. And a little bit scary.

Thank you! I hope you had a great St. Patty's day too. :)

Does he have red hair? If so, you might want to check his ears.
