As difficult as it is to get the seeds I plant to grow, I find it amusing (and frustrating!) that the things I don't plant are thriving.
Do these plants look familiar to anyone? Are they weeds? Potatoes? Some weird plant growing out of my compost?

My guess is potatoes or peppers. Just a guess, though.
That is so cool that those potatoes planted themselves. My son Nino just loves gardening. I hate it. Gratefully they have a gardening class a couple of times a week at his school. And also my mom likes to garden. (She lives with us.) So I think he gets his gardening fill. Hopefully. I really do think it is so awesome to see things you planted yourself growing out of the earth. But I'm kind of a princess when it comes to getting really dirty. I feel like I get enough of that with just the peanut butter smears and play doh stains all over my clothes on a daily basis. I do wish i enjoyed it more though. Cuz when the kids get a little bigger, I really would like to plant a squre foot garden with lots of yummy veggies. Maybe I'll get more into it as time goes on. You will be by inspiration!
In college I lived in a house that already had a garden planted out back with tomato, basil, and zuchini. You are right. Those were the tastiest veggies I ever had in my life.
