Holy Mary, Mother of God. By some miracle, my seedlings have defied Death Box 2: Wrath of Sun and are sprouting. Sprouting!
I'm running into one teensy-weensy problem. I'd anticipated that my seedlings would die a horible death so caved into the temptation to buy plants at the nursery. Joseph and I took pen and paper outside tonight to take inventory.
"Oh dear," I said, shaking my head as I stared at the garden. "We could be in trouble."
"Oh dear," Joseph said, hands on hips and shaking his head. "We're going to be in big trouble."
"One, two, three..." I counted.
"Twelve, twenty-two, ten, sixteen..." Joseph counted. (Note to self: Have Chad work on J's math skills. He's obviously inherited mine.)
The grand tally is...daunting. (But kind of exciting too.)
Tomatoes: 18 plants, 12 sprouts
Cucumber: 6 plants, 12 sprouts
Eggplant: 2 plants, 9 sprouts
Bell Peppers: 6
Jalapeno: 1
Zucchini: 6 plants, 6 sprouts
Yellow: 6 plants, 9 sprouts
Paddy Pans: 9 plants, 4 sprouts
Beans (green, black, purple, red): 78 plants, plus 12 sprouts
Spinach: 5
Romaine: 6
Red Leaf: 4
Bib: 5
Peas: 23 with another 30 in the ground.
All of this in addition to the blueberries, strawberries, onions, garlic, herbs, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, greens, apple, orange, lemon, radishes, carrots and who knows what else I've planted out there.
On a totally unrelated note, I've talked Chad into extending the front sidewalk four feet into the yard where the grass has died. What? Stop looking at me like that. You don't think I'm going to fill pots and put them out there, do you? That thought never crossed my mind.
But it did cross Joseph's.

you are such the "virgo" = making lists....
you create such a picture with your words - I can totally "see" you and Joseph outside with a tablet, pen and magnifying glass (I added that to the image) checking your seedlings.
A huge "chuckle" for this morning... John read it over my shoulder.
Is it time for some "seedling" pictures yet?
Chris - I'm hoping to get pictures this weekend! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything grows. With a 45-60% success rate, I'm playin' the odds. :D
