Sloooooow Goooooing

I feel like I'm in quicksand.

By this time last year, I had all my plants in the ground and was worrying about thinning. This year, I'm still in the prep stages.

And, as previously noted, starting over with my seedlings.

We've had several things work "against" our gardening efforts.

First, there's Chad's schedule. With him working on Saturdays, we only have Sundays to either do chores or have fun as a family. We've been combining the two and calling Sundays Family Funday. Joseph is on to us. Last week he asked if cleaning out the garage is fun.

Sure it is, darling boy.

Second, for the first time in years, we've had rain. A lot of it. Mostly on weekends. I'm not going to complain on that score. Just sayin'...it takes away prime gardening time.

Then, there's that sweet, docile creature known as Elizabeth. Or, by her other name, the Dimpled Dictator. The child does not like to be set down. At all. I place her on a blanket in a sunny spot of the yard, surrounded by toys, hat on her head. Within moments, she's screaming bloody murder and won't stop until she either a) turns purple or b) is picked up.

I thought second children were supposed to be more...patient.

Confession: Yesterday, in an effort to "shock" her out of her purplish rage, I sprayed her with the hose. Hey! It was on "mist"! She paused, looked at me, lowered her brows and let out a scream that sent the birds flying from the trees and small animals scurrying into their burrows.

I'll be waiting for CPS to show up on my door. I can assume that I'm out of the running for Mother of the Year.

Anyhow...I'm nearly bouncing in anticipation. I so badly want to dig deep into the ground and plant healthy green seedlings.

Note to self: Grow healthy green seedlings.

Another note to self: Budget buying healthy green seedlings.

There is a bright spot on the horizon. Kendra has kindly volunteered to join the Dawson Asylum this Saturday to help entertain the inmates while I prep my beds.

If I were a baking woman and if I weren't trying desperately to lose this baby weight, I'd bake her cookies. I'll at least make her lunch.
