Pumpkin Carving

Back to the weekend...

On Saturday, after wrangling three very excited children, the whole family headed to a local pumpkin patch.

Side note:  In a moment of out-the-door-mad-rush we forgot my camera

The pumpkin patch featured a barnyard where, for a few dollars, children could sit on bales of hay and hold any number of farm animals from kittens to chicks to ducklings.  After getting their fill of small creatures, they went into the barn and brushed the ponies, pet the timid little sheep and walked amongst the chickens.

The kids adored it.

Personally, as much as I love the whole farm experience, I was never so happy to see a bottle of hand sanitizer.

After a little, very little, quiet time, Matt laid down layers of newspaper on the kitchen table and gave the kids pens to draw their jack o'lanterns.  Joseph was adament that his pumpkin be happy rather than scary.  He gave it a big goofy grin, mishaped eyes and, best of all, perfect eyebrows.

The adults got into the game when it became time to do the actual carving.  Joseph still won't help scoop the insides.  He thinks it's "disgusting".  Not that I blame him.  I too can't handle slimey texture of the inside of a pumpkin.  Chad was called in to do a rough cleanup.  We carved along Joseph's lines and before long, we had a goofy, fun pumpkin.

Matt, looking like a man who should not be wielding a knife, worked on Sal and Sophia's.  I have to say, the finished product was ghood.  (Get it?  "Ghood" as in "Ghouls" and "Ghosts".  *sigh*  It loses something with the explanation.)
