If I had to make a list of everything we've been doing this past week, it'd be woefully short. Chad was off work so you'd think that would mean that we'd be going out and about while we could. What it actually meant was that we spent a lot of time napping and watching movies.
A few highlights of our low-key week...
We tried to beat the heat by heading to the beach for the morning last Friday. Our trip was in vain. This heat wave that's hit California didn't spare the coast. No pictures of Elizabeth on her first beach trip. I took a couple of Joseph, we ate a quick lunch and then headed to the cool comfort of an air conditioned car. The beach just isn't as pleasant when you're playing in the sand under an unrelenting sun with not a bit of breeze to cool our sweat-soaked skin. I'm starting to really look forward to winter.

Last night, I sat with Elizabeth who, by the way, was way too awake and alert for a wee babe at 11:00 at night, watching Galaxy Quest. I sat with a coo-ing, ghee-ing little girl and tried to explain the parallels with Star Trek. (It's never too early to start the science fiction indoctrination. Lord knows she's not going to learn about transporters and alternate universes from her father.) It occurred to me that the movies I'm watching now, the movies I watched in my childhood, the TV shows, the books, the music...it's going to be old by the time she and Joseph are old enough to care. It also occurred to me that if I keep trying to explain sci fi to her, she may realize at an early age exactly how nerdy her mother is.

Tonight, Joseph asked to give his sister a bath.
Backing up a few days, The Adjustment of Joseph has been our main show this last week. He started the week off a bit rough. Over the course of six days, he went from, "Can someone else take her home?" to "I have a beautiful princess baby sister." Progress.
We sat Elizabeth in her so-pink-it-hurts-your-teeth baby tub and let Joseph wash her up. She loved her bath, attended by her adoring men. I have a feeling this little lady would spend all evening in her bath. No screams. No tears. Nothing but calm relaxation.
Please note The Baby's Belly. I'm quite proud of that round dumpling. It represents almost four weeks of successful breastfeeding.

Speaking of calm. Somehow, someway, the stars aligned perfectly tonight and we got both kids bathed and in bed at the same time! I'm going to take advantage of the peace and quiet and take a long shower. Goodnight, Mandyland. Tomorrow marks the first day of what I consider autumn. Yes, I know...it's not official for a few more weeks, but September means school days, Halloween costume ideas and...a gardening update. Ooooohhh...I bet you're just gnashing your teeth in anticipation.
