Before I start in on my whining and complaining about the triple digit heat wave, I need to finish up last weekend's post.
On Sunday, Mother's Day, we went over to Chad's parents for a delicious brunch and Wii-fun. After Joseph went down for his nap, Chad and I left to celebrate our anniversary.
That's right, Mandyland, Mr. Dawson and I have been married for six whole years. I wish I could add, "and never had a fight" but let's get real. I'm Italian-Irish.
Side note: Looking for a digital picture from our wedding reminds me that I really need to transfer our pictures to a disk. Can you believe that just six years ago, digital cameras weren't the "norm" when we interviewed wedding photographers?
We went out for a nice Thai dinner, a walk in the park and then, that man I love, went to see Wolverine. For those of you who don't know us personally, let me assure you this was an extreme act of love on his part. Chad's the only man I know who doesn't like action/super hero/blockbuster-style movies. He'd rather see a random Indy film or foreign flick than the summer's biggest film. For him to actually go see a superhero movie with me was huge.
After the movie we came home, put a blanket on the grass and looked at the stars. We talked about our previous anniversaries...
On our first anniversary, we were in Ireland. I looked everywhere for a piece of cake to celebrate. The little town we were in didn't have a bakery the way we do here. The bakery made bread, of all things. Not a piece of cake in sight. We finally went out to dinner and shared a piece of tiramasu.
On our second anniversary we were in Scotland. Thinking ahead, I bought a piece of chocolate cake at Tesco along with a bottle of wine. We searched for a local stone circle, thinking that we'd toast our anniversary in the center. When we finally found it, we discovered it was in the middle of some one's backyard. We took our champagne to a local park and sat in a gazebo, drinking champagne and eating cake.
On our third anniversary, Joseph was twenty days old. My mom watched him while Chad and I feasted on steak and crab at the Paso Robles Inn, followed by a brief trip to Chad's Favorite Spot. He brought his iPod and speakers and we danced on a hill top until mosquito's and the sprinklers drove us away. We only had two hours between feedings to celebrate and we laughed at how far removed Scotland seemed.
On our fourth anniversary, we went to Artisan in Paso and feasted on fondue and steak. We walked around downtown and then went to the hot tubs. We sat under the stars and drank champagne, listening to music.
For our fifth anniversary we went to McPhee's in Templeton. Over an amazing dinner of halibut and pork chops, we talked about traveling - both where we've been and where we dream of going. We considered having a second baby and laughed at how boring our lives must seem now compared to pre-kids. We followed dinner up with dessert tubside at the hot springs and came home to a peacefully sleeping Joseph.
Six years...it seems like our wedding was just yesterday. At the same time, so much has happened in our lives...two whole people have been added to the universe all because Chad and I stood in the gazebo on that May day and said, "I do."
