Wait! I just remembered. Melissa claims one of her friends reads my blog for some inexplicable reason. So in honor of her unnamed friend, I'm going to spice up this entry.
Oh. My. God. What a weekend! I went to a party on Saturday and didn't get to bed until after 2 a.m. Seriously crazy. I saw Lane again and have to confess I stole a kiss. FINE! I stole a couple dozen. He's soooooo cute.
Okay. I've got to stop. I'm starting to sound like a teenage girl. Has it been that long since I've had an exciting night life? Let's not answer that.
We arrived in Fresno under the threat of darkened skies. By the time the party started, the clouds had blown by allowing the kids to get out and play with the bubble machine.
Side note: The bubble machine is the most amazing invention known to parentkind. A $2 jug of bubbles, a couple batteries and you're set for hours, and I mean hours of playtime fun.
The light was amazing so I got a few good shots. (Link at the bottom of the page.) I love overcast days. With my limited photography skills, clouds are my best friends.
After an hour - seriously - of bubblicious play, the kids came inside for fruit kabobs, potato salad, hot dogs and cheeseburgers. Joseph had a few moments of shyness, but strawberries proved to be to strong a temptation. The kabobs included pineapple and kiwi. I had a suspicion that Joseph would love kiwi, but it's green and in his eyes green = veggies. Still...I had to try.
"Baby...try the kiwi. You'll really like it. It kind of tastes like strawberries."
"NO! I don't like it."
"Okay...but it's really yummy." After a few moments of hesitation, probably suspecting veggie subterfuge, he finally asked for a bite. His eyes lit up.
"I love it! It's the best kiwi!"
See? Mommy knows what she's talking about occassionally.
After lunch, we gathered around Lane, who reigned in his high chair, to sing "Happy Birthday". His eyes got huge when everyone started singing. He looked from side to side, unsure of what was going on. With some help, he blew out his candle and dipped his fingers in the frosting. He must have been a bit startled by the consistency because the frosting triggered a reaction of shock followed by a muppet-mouth cry.
While Lane was getting cleaned up and consoled, Adam lit a candle on the big sheet cake for the rest of the kids to blow out. Twice. They loved it.
Present time followed. Lane had a lot of little helpers with his presents - including Joseph who, obviously completely over his shyness, plopped himself down right in the middle of the fray.
We decided to stay the night and were able to have a nice chat with Danielle and play with the Wii.
Side note: Joseph played the boxing game which left him a bit conflicted. He was excited when he won, but then, very seriously told me, "I hit the boy, Mommy. That's not very nice. He got hurt." I think we'll hold off on boxing-type games for a bit longer.
We left early Sunday morning and made the trek home. The rain held off until we pulled into the driveway just in time for me to take a nice, long, cozy nap.
