You were all waiting for an Inauguration post, weren't you? Didn't believe I'd committed myself to the 12-step program, huh?
As it happens, I did have a bit of a back slide. I watched the Inauguration. Yes, yes. I'll cop to everything. I also watched the parade. Fine! I watched the Dateline Special too. But that's it! I swear. Do the internet articles count?
I was actually a bit worried I wouldn't get to see it, but I highly underestimated the importance this sort of thing holds to educators. (I should have known...I watched the first Bush get sworn in while in my classroom.) There were monitors going in two areas of the building and everyone - Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Green Party Members - sat, stood, watched and listened. As one conservative Republican co-worker said, no matter how you slice it, history was made.
I'm actually glad it was a positive piece of history. So often when people say, "you'll remember this", you want to run screaming - Challenger, Princess Di, 9/11, Heath Ledger - or was that one just me?
In the immortal words of John Adams (yes...my next Presidential post is forthcoming):
"I long for rural and domestic scene, for the warbling of birds and the prattling of my children."
In other words...back to gardening and canning.
