Softball Sunday

Chad and I woke up around the same time Sunday morning because...wait for it...Joseph slept in! (At least, he slept until after 7:00 a.m.) After a quick breakfast we took an hour long bike ride around the steep hills surround Paso. This town is seriously going to either kill me or give me quads of steel.

Side note: I'm starting to regret getting a cruiser. While I appreciate the vintage flavor and overall cuteness of my blue bike with it's basket in front, I'm starting to realize that I would have been better off with 21 speeds instead of a measly 7.

While the boys napped, I made yet another two batches of apricot jam (turned out beautifully) and whipped up a pasta salad in preparation for....our Sunday Night Softball Game.

Rachel came up with a great idea to have a Stroller Strides Softball Game followed by a potluck the last Sunday of the month. We had a great turn out, and even greater food. I think we ate more than we played, but there were a couple awesome sports moments:

1. Mary, ten month pregnant Mary, came up to bat and, with her belly in front of her, still managed a double. (I believe that was her only at bat. That type of twisting is not recommended while pregnant.)

2. Chad talking smack to Jen, telling everyone, "Move up from the outfield. There's a lady at bat." Jen, sweet, wonderful Jen, hit that ball over the top of my dear husband's head.

The skill levels ranged from the guys who hit homers to one who finally struck out after ten swings. (Next time, man!) From girls who had played for years to some who chopped, not swung, at the ball. We only managed three innings, but we all had fun. I can't wait until next month.
