There are times when you can do things on your own rather than hire out - painting the living room, fixing a screen door, changing out the faucets, changing the oil. There are other times, when it's best to leave well enough alone and pay for a professional - installing counters, re-paving the driveway and cutting your son's hair.
I thought to trim up Joseph's hair a bit. It'd been three months since his last hair cut and it was starting to get a little shaggy. On a sunny morning last week, I wet Joseph's hair and sat him down outside. Using Chad's razor on the "3" setting, I started buzzing around the back of Joseph's hair. And yes. I said "razor", not "clippers". I have since learned that there is a difference.
At first, Joseph was patient, sitting very still as I "tickled" his hair. Then he started to squirm. The squirming turned to twisting which turned into a bald spot on the side of his head and an emergency trip to Supercuts.
Next time I'll leave it to the professionals.
