Friday at the Fair

It was yet another busy weekend. We started off Friday by going to the Bob Jones Trail in Avila for a Stroller Strides Cardio Day. After a very enjoyable walk, we headed over to the Barn for a playgroup and picnic. We do this every fourth Friday. It's one of my favorite ways to spend a Friday morning. (My other favorite way - sleeping in and lazing away the hours with a good romance novel - is virtually impossible post-Joseph.)

Jamming side note: Jeri met me with more fruit plus I spoke with a salesperson who told me all about the great discounts the Barn has for their jamming fruit.

After lunch, I loaded up the boys - I took Benny home for a sleepover - and headed back to Paso. Benny fell asleep by the time we hit the freeway. Joseph spent the whole ride staring at Benny and telling me, "SHHHH...Bye sleeping." Benny woke up as soon as we got home - just in time for Joseph to go down for his nap. Benny and I spent a very relaxing couple of hours getting ready to go to the fair.

Mommy Ah-HA Moment: Make-up sponges work great for putting sunblock on little faces.

After Chad got home, we woke up Joseph, loaded the boys and headed down to the fairgrounds. I was hoping it would cool down before we got there - it was 5:00, after all - but no such luck. It was 102. I'd packed water bottles filled with ice before we went. By the time we met up with the family, the ice had melted and the water was already starting to warm up. We watched Zoo to You and then stood in line so that J and Sophia could ride the ponies. I got a tear in my eye as I watched my big boy ride the pony, smiling and waving the whole time. (Chad said he had a little dust in his eye too.)

We wandered down to the rides. This was my Disneyland Trial. I wanted to be sure that Joseph would like the rides and not get too scared. I shouldn't have worried. He took to them like an adrenaline junkie at a bungee jumping convention. The first ride hadn't even stopped and he was already pointing at the next ride he wanted to go on. After a few rides, we went over to the carousal so Benny could ride as well.

At this point, we decided we should probably feed the kids. We walked to the food area and picked up pizza and fresh fruit. I bought the Most Expensive Water on the Central Coast at the Albertson's stand and refilled the boys' water bottles. Their poor little faces were beet red (as was mine) from the heat. Fortunately we were able to find a shady spot to sit and eat.

We ended our Family Fair Night with a quick run over to where the winning jams were displayed. My kiwi placed second! I can't wait to see what the comments are so I can improve and maybe, just maybe, produce a blue ribbon jam.
