That Time I Pretended to be a Film Star

"I think we have a small problem."

"I think the problem is not small," I corrected wryly, staring at the top of the head of the man studying my chest.

He looked up and grinned. "Inka!"

"What is the problem?" Inka asked in her soft German accent as she strolled over.

Noah gestured with the tiny microphone. "I need a flat space to attach this..."

"And I have no flat space," I finished.

Inka took the microphone and deftly wedged it between my boobs.

"Will it hold?" asked Noah.

Inka and I stared at him in silence.

"Right."

And thus began the day I pretended I was a film star.

Or, at least, a commercial star.

When Momtastic offered me the opportunity to shoot a video series, I had no idea what to expect. I suppose, a part of me, was thinking it would be a guy with a camera and maybe a director of some sort. I wasn't expecting a full crew including set designers, make up artists, costume designer, boom operators, sound and camera men, and people who held positions I can't even figure out.

I wasn't expecting a wardrobe...

"Sit there. A little further from the back. Okay. Put your feet like that. Hold on. Inka!"

Inka wandered over and fixed the fall of my sweater, adjusted my neckline, and picked at a small stray thread while make up brushed powder over my face already beading with sweat under the hot lights.

"There. Don't move. Act natural."

I held my body still not wanting to destroy their work.

I wasn't expecting to meet three amazing women who chatted and bonded with me over a twelve hour day of shooting.

I wasn't expecting to fall in love with the set and wish, repeatedly, I could just curl up with a book and live right. there.

I wasn't expecting a peek into what goes into making a short film.

I was expecting to have fun. I just wasn't expecting to have SO much fun.

And now, you can check out the finished product in a video series over the course of the next four weeks. The first episode is up and just seeing my dear partners in film makes me want to do it all over again. Because there are times when a twelve hour day of "work" is a twelve hour day of pure fun.

I think I was thinking everything you were thinking, starting with expecting a camera guy and a director. It really was SO FUN! I hope we get to do it again! :-D
