Listening to the News

"Do you want to go see Huey Lewis tonight?"

I paused for only .000009 seconds before hitting reply. "Yes!!!!!!!" I may have used a few more exclamation points in real life.

I love Huey. From the Power of Love to The Heart of Rock and Roll, his music is part of the soundtrack of my childhood. It brings back rainy summer days watching Back to the Future for the three hundredth time. It triggers memories of dancing the side to side, kick right, kick left, side to side steps of the 80s. So I leaped at the chance to see him at a time in my life when nostalgia is comforting and lovely.

To sweeten the pot, he was playing at the Fair on Jazz Night.

For almost fifteen years, I've watched people bring in their picnic baskets on Jazz Night. They carted cooler, dressed in costumes, and decorated tables with outrageous themes. I thought to myself, "I want to do that."

But myself soon discovered one cannot simply by a single ticket for the tables. One can not even simply buy a pair of tickets. One must purchase an entire table.

One must also realize that said table purchase is not cheap.

I shuffled the thought out of my head until I got this invite courtesy Tara.

We packed a picnic. We did not dress up and the theme to our table was "food, food, and more food."

We ate.

We drank.

We listened as Huey delivered the News.
