We discovered very cute little heart shaped hand warmers.
Elizabeth asked what they were for and I explained you popped them in the microwave and put them in your pockets to keep you hands toasty.
They immediately decided Gee needed hand warmers because she was always cold.
So, tonight we decided to make them.
Except I couldn't figure out how to make them so that they would be, well, more personal.
After all, the kids wouldn't be able to use the sewing machine to sew them.
In a burst of genius - come on, it's genius - I thought how nice it would be if Gee could hold their hands to keep hers warm.
And Heart and Hand warmers were born.
Patent pending.
Not really.

All you need is:
Felt
Thread
Rice
Lavender (optional)
1. Trace your child's hand with a marker or chalk pencil or whatever you have handy.
2. Cut out the hand. I found it was a whole lot easier to do so if you don't cut out all the fingers individually.
3. Add embellishments. I had the kids sew on a heart that they drew and cut out of the felt.
4. Sew all but the bottom.
5. Fill with rice and a touch of lavender. To make sure the rice gets all the way into the little fingers, press down with chopsticks.
6. Sew the bottom.
Give with love.
