Craftinista Out Crafted

After my homemade Christmas, I felt proud as a peacock. The lovely blogosphere was filled with accolades and a virtual ticker tape parade trumpeting my genius and creativity. Hordes of readers lined up to pay homage to...

Wait.  What was that?

Oh yes. My overactive imagination at work again.

But...I was proud of my accomplishments.

Until December 31st when this crafy gal was out-crafted by her allegedly uncrafty friends.

I doled out homemade vanilla like it was nectar of the gods and then opened two gifts. (Three, actually, but the third gift has more to do with mason bees than crafting. I digress.)

First, from Tara, I received stacked cake plates.

That she'd crafted from plates and candle holders.

Seriously.

I looked from them, to her, back to them and exclaimed in delight, already trying to figure out how I can talk her into guest posting a tutorial. (Just tossing it out there, friend.)

Then Sarah handed me a little bag with...

wait for it...

Hand rolled pie weights.

Hand rolled pie weights.

Are you kidding me? She also gifted me with the promise to walk me through making my own pie crust. We shall see. I'm not negative by any means, but good Lord...when a woman hands you hand rolled pie weights, you just realize that pie crust probably seems like a piece of pie to her. (ha!)

But what great gift ideas, yes?  For the cake plates, I can't help but think they'd be brilliant for Valentine's Day with a pile of cake mix cookies for a good friend.  Or maybe with scones for Mother's Day.  And how cute would they look with fresh blueberry zucchini bread as an end-of-the-year gift for a teacher?

And the pie weights?

Well, until I can talk Chad into letting me buy a kiln (not likely) I think I'll just enjoy the ones I have and you can all turn green with envy.

The stacked plates are AWESOME. I would love to know how they were made, so a tutorial would be appreciated, friend ;o)

I've never made pie crust, I'm so intimidated, needing weights and all that.
