Black Friday

While many of my girlfriends were awake and standing in lines, fighting for Doorbusters, I lay cuddled under the covers with Chad while Joseph snored between us.

While they were facing the hordes of deal shoppers, I snuggled deeper under the covers while Joseph and Chad got up.  Joseph pulled the covers up over my shoulders, patted my back and whispered, "Sleep a little more, mama."

I smiled and listened as Curious George came on the TV.

While my friends stumbled back, smiles wreathing their faces, the trunks of their cars loaded down with booty, we ate breakfast in our flannels pj's while Jack Johnson sang in the background.  We talked of putting up our Christmas lights and getting out our tree.  Elizabeth laughed while Joseph danced in his chair.

I know that there are men and women who brave the Black Friday crowds. I know they score deals and walk away with all their holiday shopping complete. I know they claim the adrenaline rush and the camaraderie is worth the predawn wake-up time.

But I'm much, much happier with my Black Friday plans.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving.  I hope that you're full of love, family and stuffing.  I wish you safe journeys, if you are traveling.  And if you're one of the stalwart shoppers who put on their sneakers at 2:00 AM and ventured into the dark of night, my hat's off to you. I'll just sit here, finish my tea and then try to talk Chad into climbing up to the roof and put up Christmas lights.
