My car is currently sporting a little orange light advising me to "Check Engine Soon".
I really wish that there were multiple lights:
"You should think about checking your engine." In green, of course.
"Check engine soon." In orange.
"Check engine now!!" In red.
"Don't start the car. Call a mechanic and check the damn engine." In blinking green, orange and red.
I just think it would help me know where I stand. Mechanically speaking, that is.

Mandy my lovely Jeep sports a "check engine" light frequently....
If you take it to a local auto parts store they have a handy gadget that checks why the light is on.
sometimes its nothing....
