Chad and I took Elizabeth for a drive this morning.
(Read: Elizabeth was inconsolable so in a quest for sanity, Chad and I drove around until she fell asleep.)
We meandered our way through the vineyards on 46 West. In a valley between rolling, vine-covered hills we found a new place called Farmstand 46 .
It specializes in organic, hormone-free milk, meats, cheeses and veggies. They have a beautiful, drool-inducing, raised garden where they grow the produce for their stand as well as for the attached deli's sandwiches and salads. Since we had a bit of time, Chad and I shared The Badger - a vegetarian panini with roasted vegetables and creamy herbed goat cheese on ciabatta, all grilled to a crisp.
It was divine.
We ate outside at a little table in the cool, fresh air and enjoyed a rare moment of quiet. Elizabeth, for her part, slept the whole time. Messy, gooey, crispy with a very slight buttery flavor, the panini filled our mouths with flavor. From the roasted red bell peppers to the tangy cheese, it was one of the best sandwiches I've had. We washed it down with a bottle of mineral water - although there is a winery just up the hill where one could buy a nice bottle of chardonnay.
I imagine it's going to be packed come summer. In the meantime, we're planning on heading out there some other random weekday morning. Perhaps we'll try the cheese-filled Cruiser.
