We spent last weekend painting. Let me clarify. Mom and Chad spent last weekend painting. I spent last weekend frantically looking for drips and, as Mom said, "cracking the whip". And you wonder where I get my sense of melodrama.
Mom drove over from the Valley after work on Thursday. We got up bright and early to get started on Joseph's room before Chad had to go to work. I taped. They painted. It actually didn't take that long. They were done with the first coat in less than an hour. Mom did the second coat before Chad came home on lunch.
Side note: I think I've mentioned before that I'm a Virgo. In keeping with the general personality traits, there are a few things I just can't handle. Paint drips are right up there with un-alphabetized books and streaks on windows. My mom, on the other hand, is an Aquarius. Let's just say, I know that I drove her as crazy as she drove me. But seriously, who honestly thinks that they can just paint a room without taping? And yes, Mom, I know you think you're that good. But be honest...you are not a professional.
Joseph's room in now a beautiful pale blue - a contrast to the previous taupe color. (Pictures will follow after I finished hanging all the artwork on his wall.) The previous paint was a Satin finish so didn't reflect the light. With his new semi-gloss room, it's brighter and appears more open.
Side note: Standing in the room, I was aware of the irony of the fact that when we initially painted the room before Joseph was born, I was dead set against any form of baby blue, calling the color "stereotypical". Chad, bless him, didn't say a word about my three-year-later change of heart.
The biggest paint job ended up being the crib and changing table.
Joseph's furniture was black. Gorgeous in his room, but for a little girl, I wanted to go a bit lighter. Well, a lot lighter. We ended up with a pale, pale shade of pink called Young Blush. Painting a pale shade over black - even after primer - is ridiculous. So far, Chad and Mom have put on at least six or seven coats. I've even gotten into the act and put on an additional coat or two in my spare time. Still...the black shows through. I figure it'll take four or five gallons before we achieve the proper coverage.
Pictures will follow when the painting is complete. Speaking of which, I was going to wait to post this post until I had photographic proof, but Mom's been on my case to verify that she was, in fact, working rather than hanging out at the beach and catching some rays.
On the plus side, I was able to cross "Joseph's Room" off my to-do list. On the down side, we're not much closer to crossing "Baby's Room" off any sort of list. I'll be 36 weeks on Monday. We really need to get crackin'.
