Last week, while Rachel and Jeff were on their honeymoon, Benny came over to stay Wednesday night and most the day Thursday.
Both boys were so excited to hang out. After an afternoon of them running around like crazy kids, Chad and I decided that a Thai picnic in the park was just what the Supernanny would order. We went to Downtown Park and, while the little guys terrorized...err...played with a puppy, Chad picked up Thai to go. We ate in the park, shaded by giant oaks and surrounded by other heat refugees.
Side note: Paso's one summer saving grace is the Evening Cool Down. While it's too hot to even walk out the doors most of the day, once evening hits, a blessedly cool blast of air hits town. When you drive around at 3:00, the city looks like a ghost town. By 7:00, the parks are packed with heat refugees soaking up the cool air before heading back into their homes.
After dinner, we decided to go get frozen yogurt at the Yogurt Swirl. The Yogurt Swirl is one of my all-time favorite yogurt shops. Not only is it a "build it yourself" kinda place, but it has so many topping, whatever craving might be hitting is always satisfied.
The boys were excited when they got to pull the nob to make the yogurt come out, but that was nothing compared to the thrill of picking which of the sprinkle selections would go on their swirls.
While they were sitting and eating their concoctions, three local firefighters walked in, handing out badge stickers. I don't know about all boys, but these boys love firefighters.
"Mommy!"
"Yes, Joseph?"
"The firemen eat ice cream," in a voice of reverence.
"That's probably because they already ate their vegetables." Gotta get a shout out for the veggies whenever possible.
Benny just stared, yogurt dripping from his spoon.
After we finished, we left and, those nice firefighters let the boys explore the engine. They put on the hats, talked in the radios and let them turn on the lights and siren. They were on cloud nine and, as we walked away, waving, Joseph said, "They're my friends!"
The only down side of the whole evening is that I forgot a photographer's cardinal rule. Never, ever leave home without your camera!
