I think I've finally figured out a way to conquer Joseph's fear of shadows.
Last week while we were in the bathroom after his bath Joseph turned off the light and said, "Oh no!" Then lowered voice, "Shadows."
"I love shadows."
"Shadows are scary."
"Not when the shadow is a.....bunny rabbit!" I held up my hand to make a shadow bunny jump across the wall. "Or...a bird!" I crossed my hands and a bird flew across the top of the wall. "But we should really try to find that...dog!" Exhausting my shadow puppet repertoire, I looked over to see how Joseph was taking this new development. His eyes were wide.
"DO IT AGAIN!!!!"
We played shadow puppets for about fifteen minutes, with me helping him form his fingers into the proper shapes.
It's been six nights and not a single peep about scary shadows. Who knew being a mom meant channeling your inner clown? Wait until the kid finds out about Chad and my mad balloon animal skillz.
