Every now and then, someone sends me an email with all sorts of fun household tips. I read through it and swear that the next time I dust, I'll grab a dryer sheet and the next time I clean the toilet I'll buy some denture tablets to drop in. Then, of course, I promptly forget about the tip. Finally, though, I remembered a tip and it worked like a charm.
As I mentioned in a previous post, Chad made potato salad over the weekend. He boiled the potatoes whole, with their skins on. Looking at the pot of potatoes, I remembered a video someone sent me of Mary Ann shilling Idaho potatoes. She had a three second potato peeling method that looked too good to be true.
I did a quick search on youtube and finally found a video. For those of you who do not want to watch, here are the three easy steps:
1. Score the potato lightly before boiling.
2. After they're boiled, take a potato out of the hot water and submerge in ice water. Count to five.
3. Remove the potato. Grasping each side of the score mark, firmly twist in opposite directions. The potato peel will slide off.
I realized that we had already messed up a bit by not scoring the potatoes before we boiled them, but even then, we followed the rest of the tips and swear-to-God, peeled our potatoes in three seconds flat. This is my new, tried and true method of peeling potatoes.
