Flowers...

Just to prove that not everything in my garden is being grown for consumption purposes...somehow, someway, I've finally gotten flowers to grow in my hanging baskets. Aren't they pretty? And cheerful? And fun?

I have two baskets hanging near my front door and the pansies and alysum are spilling over. You might remember these hanging baskets as The Baskets of Plant Death. Apparently coconut-lined baskets don't do very well in hot, windy areas. The wind whips through the liner and dries the roots.

Fortunately for these happy little flowers, I lined the baskets with plastic bags and mixed the soil with magic crystals.

Wonder if they'll last the summer. Stop! I'm not being pessimistic. Merely realistic. We're talking highs of 107+ in a couple of months. The alysum might survive it. The pansies...not much hope there. I'll console myself with the fact that they're annuals and wouldn't have lived long anyway.

And I'll enjoy them while they last.
