For the last few months, Chad and I have been in fierce competition over how much (or little) we can spend while shopping for groceries. At first we competed against each other, but now we're competing against ourselves. We've teamed up and, with Chad's amazing mathematical capabilities and my recall for coupons and sales, we're beating our previous individual records.
I joined an online group called The Grocery Game which helps me organize my shopping lists and track which stores have the best deals. Honestly, after a few months, I've come to realize that I can do it on my own now and will probably end my membership soon. But for getting started, it was a God's send.
While we haven't had as much success as some of my fellow shoppers - not enough pantry space to really stock up, which is a key component of the Grocery Game - we've still had great success at our coupon clippin', sales shoppin' endeavours.
The first week we saved a measly 39%. Not bad, but not good either. Feeling like we could do better, we went back the next week fully armed and walked away with a savings of 43%. On a roll (and a bit of an adrenaline rush - seriously...who doesn't love saving money and getting "deals") we continued our weekly shopping trips.
Our all-time best savings? 56% All-time worst? 37%
Either way we've been able to reduce our monthly grocery shopping trips from around $400 a month to *drum roll* $280. *cue applause*
Thank you. Thank you.
