Girl Time

On Friday, Joseph and I made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Fresno to hang out with Danielle and Lane. As I mentioned in a previous post, Chad's schedule has been a bit insane over the last few weeks and I was getting a little stir crazy. Adam has been going to school and studying on the weekends so Danielle was feeling my pain. We loaded up the car bright and early Friday and headed east.

After a very successful trip to Old Navy Maternity, Joseph and I arrived just in time for lunch and naps. We spent the afternoon visiting, shopping - window shopping, that is - and talking, always talking. I brought Mama Mia for Danielle to see, but again with the talking. I swear, it would take us about three or four days of non-stop chatting to catch up completely.

Side note: We used to car pool to work and then go for walks together in the evenings. Even doing this every day, we never ran out of things to say. I think that's part of what makes our friendship so much fun.

Saturday morning we woke up when the sky was, as Joseph put it, "pink and blue". In other words, way too early. But we'd been invited by Lane to be his buddies at his Little Gym class and getting two little ones and two mommies out the door on time required early birds.

The Little Gym class was a blast. Joseph was a bit shy to start but by the end he was playing with bubbles, hanging from the bars and swinging on the rings. He made me laugh when he "dismounted" (read: jumped) from the balance beam and put his hands above his head yelling "ta-da". Lane was in his element. He rolled and toddled and swung and spun. Both boys were too adorable for words, so I'll show you the pictures.

After Gym, we went to Starbucks for a snack, a small bookstore for a book, Farmers Market to search in vain for strawberries, OSH to help Danielle plan her tomato and herb garden (and for me to pick up a few plants), and finally Trader Joe's for those much-anticipated strawberries. We were back at the house by noon - exhausted and ready for lunch. After lunch, Lane napped while Joseph watched a movie and Danielle and I talked a bit more.

We left a little later than I'd planned, but with Joseph sleeping the whole way home, it was well worth the extra time. I don't know about Danielle, but for me it was a welcome relief after several weeks of weekends at home alone with Joseph.
