And to continue Chad's birthday...
After we woke upon Thursday we decided to take advantage of our Two-fer passes and hit California Adventure for part of the day. I put on my shirt and realized that The Belly has expanded to the point where I looked like Bubba's twin sister sporting a belly top. We did a quick trip to Target (which boasted a disappointingly small maternity section) and I bought this cute little number in the swim suit cover-up section.
Side note: The picture is a bit blurry. The poor man who offered to take our picture was completely overwhelmed by my camera - even after I showed him how to point and hold the button half way for it to focus and then push. Simple, yes?
While Joseph was bummed we were not going to go on Astro Blasters (again), he was excited about the Playhouse Disney show. At least he was once it started.
Side note: Our household has an ongoing battle against the boob tube. I don't like Joseph watching more than a couple hours a day while Chad doesn't see what the problem is to have the TV on - whether or not someone is watching it. While we were watching the live Playhouse Disney show, I realized that even with Chad's lax rules, we still watch far less TV than any other child in that room. They knew all the "passwords", all the songs, all the characters. On the plus side, their parents were singing the songs as well, so maybe they watch it as a family?
We hit up the Monsters Inc ride and then stopped at a diner to have hot dogs. Well, Chad and I were going to have hot dogs. Joseph claimed he didn't want any. Needless to say, I got a single bite before my lovely son took the mustard and relish doctored dog out of my hand and devoured it. I ate my apple slices and reminded myself that it was far better for me to eat fruit than a juicy hot dog. *sigh*
We went over to Bug's Life to ride rides and play in the water. Eleven in the morning and it was already hot enough to make me glad I wasn't wearing jeans. The water stain by Chad's arm was the result of a direct hit by those sneaky little water spouts.
Side note: I want to mention that I am not color blind. I'm looking at J's outfit in this picture and feel the need to defend my son's fashion choices. He actually had a really cute navy blue T-shirt on instead of his Disney shirt but alas! it was the victim of a very messy breakfast.
We wandered over to the Toy Story ride, but it was closed for "mechanical difficulties". Never fear. Joseph spent about thirty minutes riding the King Triton carousel. Nothing like going around and around and up and down over and over again to make a woman who's been fighting a queasy stomach a bit...well...queasy.
We finally talked J down from the King Triton's Torture Machine and walked over to the Grizzly area where Joseph found Brother Bear. He was fascinated by the huge bear, following him around, sitting and mimicking his swinging legs. Chad wanted for us all to go on the Grizzly River Run, but Joseph was too short and I was too pregnant. Then he wanted us all to go on "Flying Over California". Again, Joseph was too short and I was too pregnant. Poor Chad. He didn't have his ride buddy around. Chad ended up going on the ride while Joseph and I hit up a burger joint for my delayed lunch.
Needless to say, by this point we were done. It was only 2:00, but it felt like we'd put a full day in. We walked back to the car and drove home - Joseph and I sleeping for almost half the drive.
Side note: I don't know if it's because my mom drove me around the block to get me to sleep as a baby, but put me in a car with the sun shining in toasting my right side and I'm out like a light.
Of course we had to stop at the OG for dinner. Mmmmm....breadsticks. I ate so many before our meal got to us, I didn't have room for dinner. God. They need to put an Olive Garden in Paso. Then again...knowing my propensity towards breadstick overload, maybe it's a good thing they're not too close.
So we're back after a whirlwind trip and enjoying our three-day weekend. (More on that later.)
Man. Now I'm craving breadsticks.
