Finally Cool...

I have to finish my camping posts and there's yet another jamming post to write, but I'm too excited to wait for this post to occur chronologically.

I've finally joined the ranks of the cool people. (Excuse me while I do the cabbage patch. Wait! Does that make me uncool? Okay. I'll stop. In a minute.) The reason for this sudden transformation? I've discovered a sushi roll that I not only tolerated, but actually enjoyed. *slips on Joe Cool sunglasses*

Quick background: I have never liked sushi - and not for lack of trying. I dated a guy who loved it so much we went for sushi at least twice a week. He was bound and determined to find something that I liked. I tried everything from sashimi to California rolls to baked rolls. I tried the tuna, the salmon, the yellow tail, even the eel. I finally came to the conclusion that I just don't like it. I don't like the taste of the rice. I don't like the taste of the seaweed. I don't like the texture of the fish. I'm just not cool enough to like sushi.

For years, I would join my friends on sushi treks and sit eating tempura veggies. (I don't like teriyaki. That always seemed to be the pat response when I said that I don't like sushi. "Just order teriyaki!") For years, I would poke at my two pieces of fried sweet potato and long for Thai food or a nice pasta or a spicy burrito. I would go home still hungry and trying to figure out where exactly that $40 went.

But as of tonight, I am part of the cool crowd. I devoured an entire roll with relish. I dipped it in soy sauce and wasabi and even told Chad, "We should come here more often." Tonight I discovered the Vegetarian Roll.

Don't confuse it with it's cousin the California Roll. The Vegetarian Roll consists of bean sprouts, carrots, mini asparagus, red bell pepper and lettuce wrapped in long strips of cucumber and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Not a single grain of vinegar infused rice, not a fleck of salty seaweed. Just pure veggie yumminess.

Oh and the best part? It's completely fat free, completely healthy. I can't wait to order it again.
