Some weeks fly by so quickly I barely have time to catch my breath. I just now got a chance to sit and write about last weekend and came to the realization that I'm only two days away from this weekend. Better late than never...
Last Friday I went to Bunco. I know...playing Bunco officially makes me a Mom - more so than giving birth. The only thing more mom-like would be mom jeans, but I hope my sisters and friends would tackle me before they allowed such an atrocity to come to pass.
The Bunco Gods were with me and I won the 50/50 which gave me $12 and an excuse to join Jen and Zoila for a post-Bunco drink. We went to the Crooked Kilt and I came to two realizations.
1. I'm so very glad that I'm not single and cruising the bar scene.
2. I'm so very glad I got the bar scene out of my system in my 20's.
I'm all for going out and having a good time. I love to dance and have been known to stay out until dawn. However, I'm just not into the local pub scene. The DJ's sucked, the drinks were warm and the clothes were barely there. I have a problem with the girls dressed up like they're out in Vegas when they're in PASO for God's sake. Geez...in those outfits, at least make the drive to SLO where you can -- oh Lord. I think I'm officially old.
On Saturday we wandered over to the Templeton Farmer's Market. I fell in love. Not only were there scores of booths filled with fresh, organic produce, there was also a fish market, organic beef and eggs. I filled my "Green and Gorgeous" bag, emptied it at the car and then refilled it. The best buy of the morning? A dozen ears of corn for $4. (Not organic, but pesticide free.)
Side note: I didn't realize how trendy I am until I did a quick websearch for the "Green and Gorgeous" bag. Wow. I'm borderline cool. Well...I have a very cool and trendy sister who sent it to me, so maybe I'm just cool by association.
While I shopped, Joseph and Chad played on the playground. By the time we got home, Joseph was tired and ready for his nap. We spent Saturday afternoon with Ken and Sue while Ken and Chad put together my new BBQ. It's beautiful. It's propane - something I've been trying to talk Chad into for years - and has an extra side burner. So far, we've used it nearly every night. After Joseph woke from his nap we decided to head to Big Bubba's (how redneck do I sound?) for dinner. They'd sent me a $20 gift certificate for my birthday that needed to be used up before the end of the month. Dinner was actually very good and we got out the door for under $25. Pretty awesome way to end a pretty awesome day.
We invited Ken, Sue and Rita over for dinner on Sunday to break our BBQ in.
Side note: I had an ulterior motive. Ken left before we hooked up the propane tank. With my inability to follow written directions and Chad's very un-handyman-ness, I was concerned about blowing up our house.
I made flounder. (I told Joseph it was tilapia. Flounder is Arial's friend in The Little Mermaid and when I told him it was fish he got upset thinking we were eating Nemo. *sigh* Life was easier pre-Disney.) It turned out very yummy. I cooked it in foil packets with a little olive oil, a smidge of garlic powder, sliced onion and chopped tomatoes. I served it with tomato couscous and grilled eggplant, zucchini and squash. I'm hungry just remembering.
Over all, it was a nice, relaxing weekend - something this weekend is not shaping up to be. (I call that "foreshadowing".)
