Five years ago Chad and I moved into a new development. After a few weeks of curiously looking at moving vans and trucks loaded with furniture sitting in the surrounding driveways, we decided to take advantage of Halloween to introduce ourselves to our new neighbors.
I put on my mouse ears and tail, Chad put on my witch's hat, and Maggie Dog put on her tiara and bead necklaces. I loaded goodie bags with Halloween treats and, holding hands, we went door to door introducing ourselves to our neighbors via reverse trick-or-treat.
We had a great time and, out of that little walk, met our good friends Adam and Danielle. (Although, knowing them, the meeting was inevitable.)
This year, my mommy group has started a game called "boo" which is, in essence, anonymous reverse trick-or-treat. I was "boo'd" on Wednesday night. A knock on the door, the dog barking and a scurry of feet as the treat-giver hurried away. I took my turn "boo-ing" a few mommies the other night. In preparation, I made a quick trip to Wally World and was shocked to find pre-made "Boo" bags complete with little poem and door hanger.
Who knew that I'd be such a trendsetter.
