I entered a couple photos in the Mid State Fair. Prior to the first day of the fair, they hold an artists' reception. It's fun to walk around looking at all the entries while enjoying a glass of wine and some cheese. It's even more fun considering the large number of cowboy hats in attendance. When I think of Paso, I think of a cowboy drinking wine. It's the perfect picture of this town - the old ranching lifestyle juxtaposed with the new wine industry.
The picture I entered of Joseph was my favorite all the way up until it was matted. Fair regulations require a certain size of white matting. Great if your picture is colorful to the edges. Not so good if your picture is in the snow. *sigh* Something to remember for next year.
My last minute replacement for my poppy was a picture of some beautiful blue flowers I took out at Shell Creek Road this spring. The poppy, while brilliantly clear, had some slight discoloration that wasn't noticeable until it was blown up to an 8x10. The blue flowers got an honorable mention. Yay!
I met Jeri at the reception. She's a very talented painter who specializes in ocean scenes. Years ago, when we both worked at the City, she painted some beautiful cards and gave me a package of them. At the time, I knew that at some point she'd be selling her paintings. She got a first place for her oil and an honorable mention for her watercolor. Way to go Jeri!
Chad and Joseph were unable to join me this year. The invite to the reception said, in big, bold letters, "no children" and we weren't able to get a babysitter. I only stayed about 45 minutes...it just wasn't the same without my boys.
